The Kyoto Protocol

The Kyoto Protocol is an important international treaty, under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, with legally-binding targets to limit or reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The committments made by the countries, which signed the Protocol, add up to a total cut of at least 5% emission reduction from 1990 levels in the period 2008-2012. This treaty was an important step in combatting climate change, which is an emerging international concern.
